Marriage Licenses, Civil Unions, and
Domestic Partnerships
To apply in West Windsor Township, the couple must meet one of the following requirements:
- At least one applicant must be a resident of West Windsor Township and have proof of residency; or
- Both applicants must reside outside the state of New Jersey AND have plans for a ceremony which will take place within West Windsor Township.
How & where to apply for a Marriage License:
- Appointments are required for applicants seeking to apply for a marriage license at West Windsor Health Department.
- Appointments are available during the Township’s regular business hours. The last appointment of the day is scheduled no later than 4:30 pm to allow adequate time for completion.
- Complete the marriage license application form (Spanish).
- Do not sign the marriage application form before meeting with the Local Registrar. Both applicants must sign under oath, in the presence of the issuing authority during the scheduled appointment.
Required Documents:
- Proof of Residency: One of the applicants must live in West Windsor & provide proof such as a current, valid, photo driver’s license or a utility bill or bank statement issued within the last 90 days.
- Proof of Identity: Photo ID- present your driver’s license, passport, or state/federal I.D.
- Your Social Security number/card
Social Security numbers are required by law for US citizens and are kept confidential. - A Witness: (only one) 18 years of age or older, your witness must provide legal identification.
- Cash, Money order or Check: Application fee $28. (We do not accept Credit Cards)
- Documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
After Applying & Picking up License:

A 72-hour waiting period is mandated between the time of completion of the application until the license may be issued.
*NOTE* there is no 72-hour waiting period for a remarriage: however, you must bring a certified copy of the existing marriage.
Important Points:
- Once the license is issued, the document is valid for 30 days.
An application filed with the Registrar, but not released to the couple after the required waiting period, remains valid for 6 months from the date of application completion. - If a license expires before use, a new marriage license application must be completed with a Registrar of Vital Statistics following the steps previously noted. An additional application fee is required.
Certified Copies of Vital Records
Certified copies of birth and death certificates are available from this office for individuals who were born or died within the boundaries of West Windsor Township.
Certified copies of birth and death certificates for individuals born or deceased in a medical facility or otherwise outside the boundaries of West Windsor Township are available from the Registrar of the town in which the event took place.
Certified copies of marriages, civil unions and domestic partnerships are available for couples whose ceremonies were performed within the boundaries of West Windsor Township.

- Attach a copy of your Valid Photo Driver’s License or a photo non-driver’s license. If the Driver’s license does not have the current address, attach a utility bill issued within the last 30 days to serve as proof of address.
