COVID-19 Update – July 1st, Wednesday
As we enter another month of this health crisis, we continue our prior trend.
Over the past week (Jun 24th – Jul 1st) we recorded 7 new positive cases of COVID-19, while we cleared 28 individuals out of isolation. Our total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 202, out of which 148 individuals are cleared out of isolation. Three of the new cases are from senior facilities. For the remaining four, each is an isolated case not related to each other. None of the cases were a result of testing at the community park.
During the two days of testing at the community park, we tested a total of 358 individuals, out of which 259 were from West Windsor. Our health officer has access only to the records for residents from our town. None of the West Windsor residents who participated tested positive.
Since there is lot of talk about school openings in September, today’s picture is appropriately talking about quarantining children in school earlier in the last century. Thanks to Paul Ligeti for always providing interesting and relevant information about the history of West Windsor.
The first picture is from mid 1800s of Dutch Neck School house – one of several 1-2 room schools that served the township before the larger Dutch Neck and Penns Neck schools were constructed in 1917. More interesting is the second picture that off school register from the school house. Section 10 of the register dealt with quarantined children. Back then disease must have been common enough that this was one of the main introductory sections of the register. As parents look forward to school opening, they should know that our district has over a century of experience dealing with quarantines and disease.
Have a wonderful July 4th holiday. Stay safe.
