WEST WINDSOR TRAFFIC ADVISORY
WASHINGTON ROAD CLOSURE AND DETOUR AT D&R CANAL BRIDGE O.O.A. 01/02/2024

Washington Road Bridge over D&R Canal to be closed starting on or about January 2, 2024 between Princeton and West Windsor.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 2nd, Washington Road will be closed between Princeton and West Windsor (Nursery Road and Faculty Road) for the next phase of the D&R Canal Bridge replacement project. All work dates and timelines are weather permitting. Detours will be posted using the routes identified on the Eastbound Map and Westbound Map.

Local access will be maintained on Washington Road between Route 1 and Nursery Road. The closure is necessary to replace the temporary bridge bearings installed earlier this year with permanent bearings. The bridge was closed in late July for the work and reopened in late October. Work is expected to be complete by Saturday, January 13, 2024, weather permitting.

Pedestrian Access - Access to the D&R Canal towpath will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists on Washington Road southbound, crossing the Washington Road Bridge over Lake Carnegie. Barriers will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to the towpath a safe distance away from the active construction zone. Pedestrians and cyclists on Washington Road northbound will not be able to access the D&R Canal towpath. Instead, they can use crossings at Alexander Street and Harrison Street.
