COVID-19 Update – November 11th, Wednesday

We had twenty-seven new cases during the past week affecting 22 new households. This is the highest number of cases we have seen per week since the Pandemic began. This brings the total cases in WW to 307. If you are following news about what is happening in the country and the state, the increased number of cases doesn’t come as a complete surprise. Our neighboring towns are seeing similar increase in number of newly reported cases.

A number of people are interested in what is the state of “West Windsor community”? The number of cases & households in the past two weeks will give you that indication however you want to interpret it.

We have a total of 9 people in the health department (7 full time and 2 part time) out of which 7 are dedicated to dealing with the Covid crisis. In addition, we have received a grant from the state to hire a “vulnerable population outreach coordinator” to support the health department during this crisis. The health department employees are doing a heroic job of dealing with not only all positive cases but also helping business operate in the safest manner possible. We continue to contact trace every case and follow up with every positive individual until they are cleared. As I have said in the past, if you don’t receive a call from the West Windsor health department it’s good news.

The residents of West Windsor have worked very hard over the last six months to deal with this pandemic. Although we expect to see higher number of cases in coming weeks, following guidelines will help us keep the new cases to a manageable level. Given the recent positive news on the vaccine and therapeutic fronts there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel, even though the tunnel may be a few months long.

Today West Windsor held an abbreviated Veteran’s day ceremony at the America Legion Centennial Memorial at the municipal building. I want to thank all Veteran’s who have served and those who continue to serve this great country. Their efforts and sacrifices are appreciated by all.  Today’s pictures are from the ceremony with Veterans Michael McMahon, John L. Beglan and Joe Leone.

Please wear your mask, maintain social distance and wash your hands often. Do your part to deal with this pandemic.
