West Windsor Township Staff Elected to Numerous Posts

Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is proud to announce that several members of the West Windsor Township Code Enforcement Division have received recognition and been elected to numerous posts in major professional associations.  Mayor Hsueh stated, “By participating in key positions within these organizations our staff not only remains knowledgeable about changes in the industry but is also in a position to influence change for the health and safety of our residents.”

Two officials of West Windsor Code Enforcement were selected for positions in the International Code Council (ICC).  The ICC is an association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention.  It develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings including schools.  Most states that adopt construction codes choose the codes developed by the ICC.  Joseph Valeri, West Windsor’s Construction Official, was selected as a representative for the ICC Code Interpretation Committee.  Thomas Polino, West Windsor’s Plumbing Subcode Official, was selected as a representative for the ICC Mechanical Code Change Committee.  Mr. Valeri was also named to the Building Officials Association of New Jersey (BOANJ) Code Change Committee.

A third official, Domenick Cardarelli, the Township’s Building Subcode Official, was sworn in as the president of the Central Jersey Code Officials Association (CJCOA).  Among many of its objectives, this local chapter of both the ICC and BOANJ works to improve the standards of building code practices; to sponsor legislative proposals designed to improve construction codes and techniques; and to improve construction code administration.

Not to be outdone by the construction officials, the Code Enforcement technical assistants also received recognition.  Brenda Sirkis, the Township’s Technical Assistant to the Construction Official, was elected as vice president of the New Jersey Association of Technical Assistants (NJATA), also a chapter of the ICC.  Sophia Olhovsky, also a state-certified technical assistant, was elected as the president of Central Jersey Technical Assistants Association of which Brenda Sirkis is also the vice president and which is a local chapter of the NJATA.  These associations are organized to promote and encourage the exchange of information, education, responsibilities, and professionalism of the Technical Assistant to the Construction Official.  It should also be noted that Ms. Sirkis is an instructor at the Mercer County Community College for those who want to become state-certified technical assistants.
