West Windsor Township Senior Center Awarded Reaccreditation
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is proud to announce that the West Windsor Senior Center has been reaccredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) in September 2007. The center is one of only 145 accredited centers in the United States and currently the only municipally-operated center in New Jersey to be accredited. Currently there are two New Jersey centers accredited. The West Windsor senior Center was originally accredited in 2002. Mayor Hsueh said, “This is a great compliment to those who run our senior center. This was an intensive process that ensures the services we provide our seniors and the way in which we provide those services is of the highest quality.”
The accreditation award noted that the West Windsor Senior Center “demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to quality programs and services.” Rennie Cohen, accredited peer reviewer for the NISC, commended the Center for its “outstanding program” with a “wide variety of activities and classes on all levels” and for the constantly evolving program to meet the needs of the community. The reaccreditation is for a period of five years.
The accreditation process included a self assessment of nine areas of operation: purpose, community, program planning, evaluation, fiscal management, facility, governance, records and reports, administration and human resources. The Self Assessment Committee was comprised of the members of the Center, members of the Senior Center Advisory Council, and staff. The results of their findings were compiled in an Accreditation Manual which was then reviewed by members of the NISC Accreditation Board and which formed the basis for the on-site peer review.
The West Windsor Senior Center serves Township residents 55 years of age and older. Its mission is to facilitate successful and healthful aging in west Windsor Township. For more information on the Senior Center, visit the municipal website at www.WestWindsorNJ.org or call the center at 609 799-9068.
