West Windsor Township Joins National Campaign
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that the West Windsor Township Police Department is taking part in a national campaign entitled “Over the Limit - Under Arrest - 2007 Crackdown,” which seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. One hundred and eighty-six (186) local law enforcement agencies throughout the State of New Jersey are participating with this program including 10 police departments from Mercer County.
As part of this campaign, the West Windsor Township Police Department has increased the number of patrol officers working drunk-driving enforcement beginning on August 17th and continuing through September 3rd. Joseph Pica, Chief of the West Windsor Township Police said, “The overtime costs of the patrol officers assigned specifically to this task will be paid from monies made available through a Division of Highway Traffic and Safety grant.”
The extra police officers will be out during the two week span, setting up DUI checkpoints or roving patrol check areas to look for any driver that may be operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.
Mayor Hsueh stated, “The purpose of this initiative is to increase the public’s awareness, not only to the seriousness of the fines and penalties that impaired drivers face, but also to the danger that these motorists pose to everyone on the road.”
