West Windsor Redevelopment Plans Move Forward
West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that West Windsor has received a $55,000 Smart Future program grant for 2006. The grant was provided for two initiatives with $35,000 going towards the creation of a Redevelopment Plan for the train station area of West Windsor and $20,000 going to fund research and outreach for a sustainability plan.
Mayor Hsueh also announced that the New Jersey State Department of Community Affairs (NJ DCA) has officially designated the Princeton Junction at West Windsor Train Station area as an Area in Need of Redevelopment. The study that defined the boundaries of a proposed 350-acre area (65 properties) for redevelopment had been sent to the Office of Smart Growth (OSG), NJ DCA, on December 29th, 2005. Mayor Hsueh stated, “We are excited about the approval from the OSG and the grant monies. We plan to meet with the state and county agencies shortly and look forward to moving ahead quickly. The next step will be to develop a Request for Proposal (RFP) combined with a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit and select a Master Planner.”
Mayor Hsueh said that the grant money for the Redevelopment Plan could be used to pay the selected Master Planner to conduct public meetings and other activities associated with the redevelopment planning process. Mayor Hsueh added, “This is only the beginning. I anticipate that the planning effort will take about two years to complete. We need to ensure that all stakeholders, including property owners and residents, have ample participation in the process.”
