West Windsor Selects Redevelopment Planning Firm Finalists
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that the Search Committee which has been evaluating the planning firms that responded to the West Windsor Township Request for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/P) has determined a list of three firms to give public presentations. The Search Committee consists of the Mayor, two members of the Township Council, two members of the Planning Board, and two members of Township staff.
Mayor Hsueh explained that “This is the third phase of a three phase process.” The first phase was the issuance of the RFQ/P to which seventeen (17) firms responded. The second phase was an interview process in which nine (9) firms participated. The third phase is an open, public presentation to a joint meeting of the Township Council and Planning Board currently being planned for September.
The three firms selected as finalists are Michael Graves & Associates from Princeton NJ, Hiller Architecture also from Princeton NJ, and Street-Works LLC from White Plains NY. A presentation by each firm will be given on separate evenings. Following each presentation there will be a question and answer period for the Council and Planning Board members together with the public. Marvin Gardner, Chairman of the Planning Board and a member of the Search Committee stated, “These are all nationally-recognized firms with established credentials, professional expertise, and varied talents that will be a valuable asset to the redevelopment project.” The proposals submitted by the finalists will be made available to the public prior to the presentations.
Once all three firms have given their presentations, the Search Committee will again meet to determine one planning firm to recommend for approval by the Township Council. The Mayor, with support from the Township Attorney and the Business Administrator, will negotiate the terms of an agreement to be presented to Council. The appointment of the planning consultant will be made by the Township Council at an open, business meeting.
Mayor Hsueh commented, “From the beginning, West Windsor has had very prominent planning firms from which to choose. The selection of only three firms from the original seventeen has been a difficult one.” Council President Linda Geevers agreed adding, “This was truly a combined effort of the Council, Planning Board, and Administration. While this is still very early in the redevelopment project, the process has been a good one.”
