Dr. Gregory Olsen to Present Space Souvenir
West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is pleased to announce that Gregory H. Olsen, Ph.D., co-founder of Sensors Unlimited Inc., an electronics development company in West Windsor and recent space traveler, will return what is now considered to be an official “space souvenir” to West Windsor Township on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. This presentation will be part of a lecture Dr. Olsen will give in Council Room “A” of the Municipal Building. All are invited to attend.
As he prepared for his trip into space, Dr. Olsen included an official uniform shoulder patch from the West Windsor Police Department in his travel gear and he now plans to return the patch to West Windsor in commemoration of the voyage. The Township plans to display the patch in the Municipal Administration Building located on Clarksville Road.
Dr. Olsen launched into space on October 1, 2005 for a ten day mission to the International Space Station. While there, he was an active participant in experiments having to do with human physiology. Since returning, he has shared his experiences with numerous organizations. Mayor Hsueh said, “We are honored and delighted that Dr. Olsen was able to take a little bit of West Windsor with him on his trip. The patch, along with the exciting stories shared by Dr. Olsen, will definitely inspire others to follow his lead both in the sciences and in space exploration.”
Mayor Hsueh is currently discussing plans for the establishment of a technology museum in the Township to highlight the long and impressive history of technology and innovation associated with West Windsor. “Companies such as Sensors Unlimited Inc., Sarnoff Corporation, and AI Technology, Inc. have been leaders in the development of new technologies associated with a wide range of industries. The Township of West Windsor should partner with not-for-profit and private sector organizations to build a special place in recognition and celebration of their respective achievements,” concluded the Mayor.
