West Windsor Obtains Brownfield Grants
West Windsor, N.J. -- Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is pleased to announce that West Windsor Township has been awarded two brownfield grants under the Hazardous Discharge Remediation Fund (HDSRF) from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP).
These grants will be used to fund preliminary assessments for hazardous materials on two Township properties in the redevelopment area. Both the compost property (7.42 acres) on Alexander Road and the school bus depot property (0.82 acres) on Wallace Road were funded at a cost of $5,537.00 and $3,704.53 respectively. Further, the Township received additional money to perform a site investigation for the compost property in the amount of $53,945.
Mayor Hsueh stated, “The compost property, which is now part of the area in need of redevelopment, had once been used as the Township landfill site for about 70 years. It was closed at the end of last year and needs to be assessed before the design of remedial strategy and action can be undertaken. The bus depot, which is also part of the redevelopment area, may or may not have environmental issues which the preliminary assessment will determine. I am very grateful to the NJ DEP for assisting the Township with these properties.”
The preliminary assessment is schedule to be initiated in April, 2009.
