West Windsor Township Receives $7,000 Grant from NJ DEP
West Windsor, N.J. -- West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced today that the Township has received a grant in the amount of $7,000 from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s, Forest Service Division.
The 2009 Business Stimulus Fund was awarded to West Windsor Township and endorsed by the New Jersey Community Forestry Council.
With this grant, West Windsor Township will hire an Arborist to help the Township Staff and Shade Tree Commission develop a Woodland Stewardship Plan for the wooded 13 acres of the Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum open space property. The project will include observation of the woodland to determine the most appropriate method of assessing and recording appropriate data characterizing the woodland make up and condition. The assessment method will be applied as the Arborist trains Township staff and Shade Tree Commissioners to perform the assessment for other Township open space woodland. The cost to complete this portion of the project will include $3,000 of grant funds.
Based upon the assessment, the Arborist will prepare typical annual stewardship work plans and budgets that will be used by the Township to implement an annual tree maintenance program for the woodland and special stewardship projects. Again, the Arborist will train Township staff and Shade Tree Commissioners on application of the development and implementation of the stewardship work plans. The cost to complete this portion of the project will include $4,000 of grant funds.
Mayor Hsueh stated, “This grant is another example of the ongoing cooperation between the Township and the State for the improvement of our environment and economy. We will continue to participate in all available programs to improve and protect West Windsor.”
