Major Northeast Corridor Track Work Scheduled To Start In May
Customer Notice

Track Work to Replace Concrete Ties on the Northeast Corridor will Result in Schedule Adjustments and Boarding Changes
Last year, Amtrak identified 26 miles of track on the Northeast Corridor where concrete ties are in need of replacement. Since then, speed restrictions have been put in place, and concrete ties have been replaced at various locations.
On May 11, 2008, Amtrak will begin a long-term track work project to replace all concrete ties in the affected areas. During this project, one of four Northeast Corridor tracks will be taken out of service, representing a 25 percent reduction in track capacity on sections of the busiest railroad in North America.
Unfortunately, this project will result in schedule adjustments (including slightly longer trip times for some customers), boarding changes and possible delays, particularly for customers at Princeton Junction, Hamilton and Trenton stations. As the project moves forward, NJ TRANSIT will issue a new Northeast Corridor timetable every 8-10 weeks to reflect the specific location and scope of the tie replacement work and minimize the impact for Northeast Corridor customers.
The project will continue through the fall and may extend into next year. Please be assured that we will keep you updated as the project moves forward, and that we will work with Amtrak to do everything possible to mitigate delays.
